Re: Would it be crazy to use a duck boat on the flats?

I lost a bucketmouth today    That makes 2 now if you remember. That was the worst part of a good day though. I caught plenty of Bream and several more Bass, 14-16 inchers again plus 1 more that was a little better but not a bucketmouth. Those all went back. That was a Grass Carp I se...

Re: Would it be crazy to use a duck boat on the flats?

I always do! Do the links for pics here work for FB? Every time I’ve been to a pic hosting site in the last several years it’s been a ad, spyware etc disaster.

Re: Would it be crazy to use a duck boat on the flats?

Welp I made it today. Man it was great. Wish my old man was still here for the return to the bass hole. I slid the boat in and forced myself to start paddling instead of fishing. As soon as I got past Horn Spring I started throwing the lure occasionally, not fishing hard. It was no longer 10 inchers...

Re: Would it be crazy to use a duck boat on the flats?

You can’t legally, but I don’t think they care similar to the WMAs if they were to catch you without beer, totally legal etc. The park rangers caught me before remember. But I wouldn’t go out there in a kayak, let alone 2 of them. It’s tight to begin with. And I’m sure the star of Young Guns didn’t ...

Re: Would it be crazy to use a duck boat on the flats?

I made it back to the St Marks now that it has sunk back down and I kid you not I could have caught a bucket full of double handsizer Redbreasts on nothing but the lure. Every throw they would nail it. If they didn’t a 10 incher bass would. I finally grabbed the plastic worm and tried for a big bass...

Re: Volcanos and Rapids...

Have you been back to the Steinhatchee River mullet spot you were talking about a couple years ago, lately? I got away from mullet with my Horn obsession there but that’s still what I think about alot. Everything around here of course is to dark. The shallow end of the Suwannee River in Live Oak loo...

Re: Volcanos and Rapids...

There’s more velocity now than before because the dam is leaking so bad on top of the silt problem. There’s just that much of it! And it ain’t moving lol! And of course whenever it manages to become navigable with a big boat for a month or so during rain season the big boats spend that month doing n...

Re: Volcanos and Rapids...

Those are lakes though. The river is springfed nonstop. And fed by wetlands.

Re: Volcanos and Rapids...

To much silt for such a simple solution imo. It would have to be physically removed which I don’t even know can be done. There hardly even is any hydrilla anymore let alone ribbon grass and the pretty aquatic grasses. They were going to make it canoes only in the late 80s I think. Dang dang dang if ...

Re: Volcanos and Rapids...

The campers have about vanished. The hippie campers bolt as soon as it gets to hot of course, and I’m just assuming that all of the old timers who used to camp almost all summer have moved on. As for the river there is a bad silt problem and the water is 3 feet deep in most places above the dam, but...

Re: Volcanos and Rapids...

At the gate lol! Not where you apparently used to park all the way out on HWY 98 according to everything I’ve Googled and FB’d. You turn off of 98 and go to the Florida Trail where they have a gate. Goose Pasture is my all time favorite place ever but I’m borederline ashamed of it now. Goose Pasture...

If I were as good at getting titty titties as I am at getting titty bream...I’d be good at getting 2 of my favorite things

Re: Volcanos and Rapids...

The did a good enough job of cleaning it up that you can take a bicycle down it now. I’ll probably do that next time. My ultimate goal before I die is to go as far up the river as possible which I’d prefer to do without going through the gulf from the Aucilla like the flats fishermen do. And of cour...

Re: Fishing. Period.

It can be so funny. I’ve found places like that where the fish react that way having never seen a lure. Then other times it’s been the opposite. Like their survival skills kick in and the don’t touch them because they didn’t survive in the true wild by being dumb.

Re: Volcanos and Rapids...

I wouldn’t know for sure but I don’t doubt those were river bream you caught. They were probably backed in there during high water. The Aucilla River bream around here end up in places you wouldn’t believe when it gets high lol! I had the wildest day hiking to the Pinhook Bridge that I didn’t make i...
