Gas tank help

Post by 78trouble » Wed Dec 19, 2018 9:13 am

I’m trying to get the kids go cart running by Christmas and ran into a problem with the tank being rusted out. For a new tank they want over $100 for it :dodgy: I’m trying to find a quick cheaper alternative like a plastic 1 to 2 gal tank I can mount on it and not have to worry about rust anymore. Anybody got something laying around that could work or have any ideas? I’m running out of time and hopefully the parts I ordered get here on time.

I thought I saw a small one at West Marine, but the smallest they have on their website is 3 gallons.

Is the tank rusted through or can it be cleaned and sealed?

All the way through. I poked it with my knife and it went rite thru. I was thinking about a lawn mower tank but don’t have one around anymore. I used to have one I used for motorcycles and atv’s when I had to pull the tank off for repairs. I would hang it in the air or from a open hood on trucks to bypas a dirty tank.

Get a compression barb fitting from fastenall and use a small plastic can.
